Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) or Malayan Railways Limited is the main rail operator in Peninsular Malaysia. The railway system dates back to the British colonial era, when it was first built to transport tin. It was previously known as the Federated Malay States Railways (FMSR) and the Malayan Railway Administration (MRA).
To help fix inefficient management of labor and material resources for maintenance services, plus help restructure non-standardized asset management and assignments of workorders and maintenance activity.
We conducted a study to understand KTMB’s operations practices, and then designed and customized data capture and business processing rules that best fit the company’s guidelines for operational excellence. The new implementations helped automate maintenance schedules according to asset lifecycles, and suggested maintenance assignment activities to respective teams and members in each depot. The system was also designed as a document library with references arranged by asset class to help the company standardize operating procedures.
